Our Story

Hi, I'm Heather - the creative entrepreneur behind MbM Collective.

 

Early in my career as a Labour and Delivery nurse, I struggled to find a scrub hat that could actually hold my long, thick hair securely in place. My mom, Joanne - a talented seamstress - taught me everything I know about sewing and during my first maternity leave nearly 13 years ago, she helped me design a scrub hat that finally fit and worked. 

From there, it slowly grew.

I started out sewing custom scrub hats for coworkers only. I eventually created a logo and launched "Made by Moby"  on Instagram selling small batch collections - many of which sold out within days.

But truthfully, a huge part of that early growth came from the incredible support of my coworkers at St. Joe's, Hamilton. They were my biggest cheerleaders! Wearing my hats, sharing them with others and encouraging me every step of the way. Some of them still wear their original "OG" hats... the ones that don't even have a label on them. I owe so much of those early days to them. 

For years, it was something I enjoyed so much. 

But life got busy and shifted in all the best ways. 

Raising three kids with my husband, Dave, moving, renovating (extensively), working at the hospital, and volunteering at school and church. It's a beautiful and busy season that I know many of you are in (or have been in).

After many long talks with Dave and my mom, I decided I was done. Breaking the news to my coworkers was one of the hardest things I had to do - and I didn't do a very good job of it either. I told myself I would make an Instagram post to clearly state I was closing up shop... but that post just never happened.

Clearly my head was saying one thing and my heart, another. 

I didn't want to give up on what I had worked so hard to build. 

So in early 2026, I gave it one more try - this time with intention. I invested in learning, leaned into my creative side, and began rebuilding with a clear vision. I ran the numbers, found the right manufacturing fit - another mother daughter duo - and started laying the foundation for something bigger. 

That's when MbM Collective was born. 

Today, MbM Collective focuses on thoughtfully designed scrub hats and digital sewing patterns - created for real life. Each design is made with comfort, function and personality in mind. 

This brand is about more than just scrub hats.

Its about helping you feel like yourself at work - and giving you a way to express who you are. 

Its about adding small moments of joy to your day - for you, your coworkers and your patients.

And its about creating pieces that truly work - because they were designed from real experience. 

As MbM Collective grows, so does the mission: to give back, to build community and to empower others to create through sewing and design.
